I Need Thee Every Hour

You have all experienced it (and if you haven’t, well, you should give me some lessons).  Someone cuts you off when you are running late, or the water boils over and you have a huge mess, or you work on 15 different drafts of a project and none of them come out right.. I don’t know about you, but it is in moments like these that I lose my cool.

And I shouldn’t, right?  “Don’t sweat the small stuff.”  Sometimes it feels like the big stuff I can handle, but it is the everyday little frustrations that set me on edge.

I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.

Oh yeah.  Peace.  When you are angry, doesn’t just thinking the word peace make your heart begin to race even more?  At times, thinking about peace stresses me out.  I don’t know how to get there when I’m frazzled.

I need Thee, Oh I need Thee, every hour I need Thee;
Oh bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee.

That’s the answer.

I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their power when Thou art nigh.
I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain.

So often in times of anger, when you feel your blood boiling past the point of no return, when you begin to raise your voice, do you hear that voice saying “Be calm.. I am here..”?  I ignore it all too often.  I let my temptation of getting angry take precedent over my Savior telling me to be at peace.

I need Thee every hour, teach me Thy will,
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.
I need Thee every hour, most Holy One,
Oh make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son.

Peace is at our grasp.  We have to come to the realization, though, that we aren’t able to do it alone.  The times I fail the most are when I think I have all the power to stay calm, to stay positive, and to do the right thing in a bad situation.  And, we have to be willing to come to Him. Every hour. Every minute.  Every second.   We are nothing without His love and grace.. And peace.

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”. John 16:33
